Workshop

We organize workshops for art forms with oral tradition, where transmission of heritage skills is done through Guru Shishya Parampara. It is very popular amongst traditional folk practitioners. We also encourage and impart training on instrumentation, recording, sound engineering etc. and invite national and international exponents for the same.

Jhumur Workshop

Workshop Detail
Jhumur workshops were organised to enhance the skills of Jhumur artists. Around 762 participants attended these workshops and got the opportunity to learn and enhance their performing skill from the distinguished Gurus and trainers of Jhumur. The workshops used to start with morning walk and song (Prabhati), after which all the singers and musical instrumentalists were divided into groups and training with musical instruments was conducted. The classes were shuffled each day so that the participants got attended by all the Gurus. On the last day, the singers presented the songs which they learned from the workhshop. The participants enjoyed the training as it gave them the opportunity to meet many Jhumur artists and Gurus. They also learnt about Darbari Jhumur Gaan (Traditional Jhumur Songs).

Baul Workshop

Baul workshops were organised to provide a learning space where the Baul singers can receive training from distinguished Gurus as per traditional Akhara based system and to also improve their understanding on the philosophy and meaning of the songs. Around1157 Baul singers attended the workshops and got the opportunity to learn and enhance their performing skills from the distinguished Gurus. Eminent Baul singers like Tarak Khayapa, Bhajan Das Bairagya and others guided the Bauls of different districts so that they can learn different styles of singing and instrument playing from each other. Each day of the workshop started with a bare foot morning walk and meditation programme followed by a practice session of songs given by the gurus. The evening trainings were planned in such a way so that each and every participant could get individual attention from the different Gurus in alternative days during the workshop. The participants were also given training on musical instruments from the second day.

Bhawaiya Workshop

Bhawaiya Workshop: Bhawaiya workshops were organised with an objective to revive and safeguard the art form, attract the younger generation and enhance the skills of Bhawaiya practitioners. Around 1347 participants attended these workshops and got the opportunity to learn and enhance their singing skill and instrument playing skill as well. Trainers divided the whole workshop sessions in several modules. On the first day, the participants were made aware about the art form along with the schedule of the workshop. On the second day, the artists performed Bhawaiya songs and eminent Bhawaiya artists listened to the songs from each participant and addressed their drawbacks. Then the respective Gurus taught them one or two songs each. In the next two days, the singers were divided into three groups according to their gradation. Also, a special class was held with the instrument players.
