This section is quite an umbrella genre of folk music. Here we focus on urban folk musicians. Historically, across India, other than the traditional communities, folk music is also being practiced, nurtured and performed by urban musicians and music researchers and also offered as a course curriculum at various universities. Many of the city practitioners spend time with traditional artists communities, many of them learn it at University level, many of them learn it from childhood with local masters and many of them learn it on their own and then interact with masters when needed. Quite a few of them are quite good at the depth, content, knowledge and presentation. To encourage these talents, we provide space at Akhra@Baitanik to perform and then we select a few for recording their albums. We have released a few albums in this category.
